Single-origin teas and encaustic tiles featuring Basao tea plantation soil

Basao teahouse on Pak Sha Road is a 1,200 sqft venue that serves single-origin teas sourced directly from farmers across South East Asia. Custom tiles were incorporated into the design to feature soil from a Basao tea plantation; demonstrating the soil properties that contribute to the profile of Basao teas. On close inspection, bits of tea plant fiber can still be seen in the encaustic tiles that line the floor, walls and counter. A live-edge wood slab table is placed centrally to invite customers to linger. In the spirit of wabi sabi, inlaid brass crosses stitch together the tables at natural weak points in the wood grain.
